I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 that I bought via Telecom in May. I took it to Canada and the LTE on Bell Canada (I have a Bell SIM) worked great. It now works just great here in Auckland, too. I will soon be receiving a Nexus 5 for Xmas.....a complete surprise, honest....and it does LTE, too. I do not expect any problems. But in the Android Forum, one poster suggested that LTE phones from the Google Play Store (devices branch) would not work in NZ. Is this person incorrect? Are there grey areas? Or will LTE 'just work'™ ?

Charging for voicemail
Why do we still get charged to access voicemail?I find it really annoying when someone leaves a message on my cell, but I can't access it because it wants to charge me for it, even though I have 240mins of call time, 1000's of txt and 1GB of data on the plan, yet I still can't access the damn voicemail.

Has anyone got more than 7.2Mbps D/L on 3G outside urban areas ?
I'm on holiday Wed [Golden Bay] and going to buy some prepaid mobile board band but it appears that despite 21Mbps capable [or higher speed devices] bandwidth speed seems to be always be below 7.2 Mbps in rural or semi rural areasI tried a 21Mbps device in Otane [between Waipawa and Hastings] and despite the [TCNZ] coverage maps saying the area had the best coverage for 3G I never got more than 4Mbps [peak] over 2 days using their own bandwidth toolsSeems buying a 21Mbps device is a waste of time What has been other peoples experiences ?

[HELP] wireless broadband options in central auckland
Hi, i just arrived auckland this week and will be staying in Waldorf st martins which is just nearby grafton bridge.
Ive been using Woosh wireless broadband last year and their service are really slow. It can be really frustating sometimes as i cant even access university website to do my assignments.
Waldorf dosent allow usage of copper or fibre line in their building so i just have wireless option here.
My question is, is there any other alternative for wireless broadband which is reasonably good price and reliable.
Thanks

Slingshot Email wont send on Telecom Iphone 5S
Hi I got a new iphone 5S on the telecom network. Previously I had an Iphone 4S.The problem I have is I have a slingshot email account and are unable to send emails on the new phone. I can receive emails. I have been to Telecom store twice where they changed the settings etc, but they could not get it to workI talked to Slingshot help line and they changed the settings etc, but could not get it to work. They suggested I went back to Telecom I talked to Telecom help line, they suggested I pay another $10 per month to get a Telecom email. Appreciate any suggestions, I don't understand how it worked fine on the 4S but now with a new phone it doesn't. When it was on the 4S it did have a strange setting that got it going, I can't copy this setting because the 4S died.

SIP2SIM Cellphone as a SIP client (NOT using an app and data)
I stumbled across this rather neat service a provider in the UK is (beginning to) offering. You buy a SIM off them (you can even upload a graphic that they'll print on it for you), put it in any GSM phone (even a $29 dumb one), provide SIP account credentials and their system basically turns that cell phone into a SIP extension. As far as the phone is concerned it makes and receives normal GSM voice calls but to your SIP IPPBX it looks like a SIP client/extension. They handle inbound and outbound TXTs with HTTP calls. You can even change the operator name that shows on the phone (excluding iPhones). Website for it is http://aaisp.net.uk/telecoms-sip2sim.html. The geek in me just can't get over how neat this is :-). As an employee of a company that has quite a few on account mobile phones I could see this being quite useful for the people whose cellphone calls are mainly between the office and themselves, being able to just dial an extension and receive calls with an extension as the caller ID (also significantly cheaper international calls). I don't suppose there are any innovative, technologically savvy cellcos/MVNOs/Other in New Zealand that could offer should a service. It's kind of a much bigger version of what OpenBTS and IP-DECT systems do (except for DECT in the case of IP-DECT).(they can also take your cellphone data and terminate it on a L2TP server of your own choice for routing on to the Internet or otherwise, which is just as neat :-) ).

Prepay & Plans without call time.
Just wondering if any of the current Mobile companies have any plans to introduce plans without call time, or give customers the ability to purchase what they want rather than being lumped with features that they don't use. So far Skinny is the only one to come close to it, but is still not perfect.I'm after a plan that allows me to purchase say 250 txt and 1GB of data per month, without calltime or anything else etc. I hate purchasing plans that are lumped with huge call time allowances when I have no use for it, ever.

Questions about cell network time/date and mobile phone 'automatic' time set
Questions about cell network time/date and 'automatic' time set I set a couple of phones to 'automatic' 'get time from network' yesterday. One Vodafone samsung android, one Telecom $30 nokia. I restarted both phones, an hour later no change to the incorrect time on both devices. No doubt there are differences in networks and implementations on specific phones but I'd appreciate an overview of how this all works in practice and any network specific information. I realise this is not NTP.

"Data overage fees are greedy and predatory" - T-Mobile CEO
http://arstechnica.com/business/2014/04/t-mobile-is-sorry-for-charging-greedy-predatory-fees-will-mostly-stop/ "T-Mobile US CEO John Legere today said that data overage fees are greedy and predatory and that the company plans to stop charging them." Obviously US-based, but a great sign that the evil idea of data charges are on the way out. Roll out unlimited data on all broadband plans, be they wired or cellular.

Ancient VF Smar1 3GB plan, want budget my phone bill, which data plan switch to?
I am using my VF 3GB smart1 plan for then last few years, with 30 minutes of calling and $41 per month. I never use up my data plan, and indeed rarely over 2 GB even though I didn't bother to using wifi from work. I normally don't make much phone calls and can always make phone calls from work if I want, I occasionally I used up 30 minutes of call time. That is where I received $69 bill from last month. Now I am thinking of budget my spending, first thing would be using a plan or figure out a plan better than the current one which have more than enough data for me to waste on one hand but not enough talk time on the other hand. The first thing I am going to do is trying to find the cheapest plan that I think I might be able to live with (2degrees 500MB carryover plans for example), and trying to living withing that plan, and even that didn't works out, I should be able move up to a larger plan later. I am not on a contract anymore and not planing using any fixed term contract to get a new phone. Normally I ust search for a best deal when I need a new phone and either buy it locally or from overseas. So the question is which plan? I always using VF and never bothered to think about switch to different carrier. As I almost always stay at Auckland, so I would think coverage wouldn't be an issue? I would think 2degree would be the best bang for the bucket. I also received a letter from Telecom offered $10 discount for bundle up my existing Telecom broadband with Telecom Mobile plans. I don't need 4G now so VF doesn't seems offer anything better than Telecom or 2degree. So I am thinking move to either 2degree $29 plan or Telecome $39 with $10 discount at the end of my VF billing period. Unless there are better plans like prepay I am not aware of.
